This week Miah modeled for me in a dress that her cousin, Katie, wore as flower girl in our wedding! I just love this fabric I found in Korea; they’re good colors on Miah, I think. Nancy made it into such a beautiful dress. I’m so glad she saved it.

On another topic, we prayed for Daddy at work the other morning. When we opened our eyes, Miah looked at me and asked, doubtfully, “Jesus is going to help Daddy?” I responded that yes, Jesus would help Daddy. She paused, with a very serious look on her face, “Jesus can’t help Daddy.” I told her, yes, He can. Another pensive look, “Jesus is going to come and help Daddy?” ”Yes, honey, He will.” I just wonder what thoughts and images she forms in her mind. We sing songs about Jesus, read stories about Him helping others, and pray to Him daily, yet she realizes He is not physically here. I want her to know that He is here in spirit and in power.

How do the roses smell, Miah? If you ask her, Miah will joyfully tell you that she will be “THREE on August 2!” But she gets to celebrate her birthday twice this year since we had a Barber Reunion of sorts this past weekend.

Aunt Stevie’s birthday was last week, but she graciously let Miah blow out the candles.

Miah decided it was a bit too rowdy to join her cousins in the pool, but she sure enjoyed watching them.

It was safer to run down the hill with Kian,

And color pictures with Tiernan.

Here’s the Barber clan, plus a few, and minus several.

Saturday afternoon we drove up Mad River to Tyee Mountain. It was nice to escape the 100° temperatures in the valley. It’s amazing what 6000 feet of elevation and a brisk wind will do to cool you off.

We visited another fire lookout tower and enjoyed the spectacular views. ↓The Entiat River valley is below us, with the Columbia River valley beyond, and finally the wheat fields of the Waterville Plateau.

↓Tyee Mountain Lookout is perched in the background.

We drove to the lookout (row 1), and admired the 360° views, including Mount Rainier ( row 2). Then we successfully located two different geocaches for Miah. She got to help with the GPS, and was happy to trade for a yo-yo and some bright pink gloves hidden among the items in the ammo cans (row 3). The flowers were beautiful (row 4) along the hike to our second vista point and cache (row 5). Miah fell asleep in the car before we were down the mountain, and the next day was asking to go to the mountains again!
