Spring or Snow?

Last Sabbath we took advantage of the beautiful weather and took a few photos after church.  Our attire was a week late for Chinese New Year, but worked well for our church directory pictures.

We’ve been having such lovely spring weather in February, and then today, lots of rain mixed with snow.   I like warm weather, and I like snow, but the rain and clouds I can do without.  Miah seems to like the same.  We drove over the pass yesterday, and Miah wanted to stop at the top and throw snowballs.  Since we had an appointment to meet, we promised we’d do it on the way home.  Of course she was sound asleep then.  I had a feeling she wouldn’t forget our promise, so we stopped anyway, and I collected half a dozen snowballs into our little travel cooler.  The first thing she said after getting up this morning was, “We didn’t throw snowballs on the mountain.”  She was happy when I opened the freezer and showed her the snowballs.

This Week In Pictures

Another week has flown past before we could catch up with it!  Here are a few snapshots to document our busy lives.

Miah loves to curl her own hair (just the bangs), and I allow it with this particular iron.  She did touch the hot part once, many months ago, and handles it respectfully now, with no further incidents.

The puzzles go together quicker each time!  She always starts this one with the pink anemones.  (She used to pronounce “anemone” like “M & M”.)

I’m ready to quilt another quilt for my mom.  It’s called a Jewel Quilt, and she used lots of scraps to make the quilt top.  It’s quite attractive.  Instead of a solid back, she wanted to use more scraps, so I put together this ↓ BACK for the quilt which is actually a large scale of one of the small squares on the front.  Of course I didn’t think to take a photo of Mom’s quilt top before rolling it onto the quilting frame.  I’ll have to remember to post pictures of the finished product.  That reminds me, I made the same statement about another quilt a few months ago . . .

Books occupy a large portion of Miah’s day.  You should hear her recite The Three Little Pigs, or Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  Oh, and she has renamed some of her bunnies Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter Rabbit because of the Beatrix Potter books.

Yes, it was a busy week.  I needed a nap, too, but I had to drive the car.

Happy Valentine’s Day and Xin Nian Kuai Le

God has blessed me with an awesome husband and an incredible daughter.  Happy Valentine’s Day to my two favorite people!

This year Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year fall on the same day.  So instead of planning an extended family celebration like we did last year, we’ll have a special day with just the three of us.  It’s been a crazy week for us, but more about that later. . .

Wild Animals

I think Miah lives vicariously through her stuffed animals.  She finds great joy in giving them rides down the banister.  Yet she’d never consider sliding down herself (thankfully!)  Sometimes they fly high into the air, doing multiple somersaults before crashing to the ground.  Miah laughs heartily as she launches them upward again.  One wouldn’t guess that she herself is quite cautious.  I’ve mentioned before what a sympathetic heart she has, but that must not pertain to stuffed animals.  Last night they were tumbling down the stairs like freestyle skiers.  The bears were the most entertaining, either cartwheeling or going head-over-heals all the way to the bottom.  Miah wore herself out carrying them back up after each tumultuous descent.  Froggy fared much better.  He only bumped his nose when he got to the bottom.
