The Year of the Snake

February 15th, 2013

Sunday we celebrated Chinese New Year with several local adoptive families.

This is our third year, and each year we have a larger turn out.

This year we had over 50 people in attendance with 11 families, including 15 kiddos adopted from China!

Miah and Ami are privileged to call them all friends.

We started out with wonderful food.

Followed by an interactive story,

Of which the kids were all eager listeners,

And participants.

Especially when it came time for the Red Envelopes!

There was opportunity to make crafts, including Snakes.

We got to meet our newest US Citizen!

And finally caught up with another, home almost a year now!

What a fun and blessed evening we all had!  Just think how much richer each of our families now are, and how much more vibrant our community.

Xin Nian Kuai Le!

Vacation

August 22nd, 2012

Our vacation started with an AWAA regional picnic.  It was good to reconnect with friends through our adoption agency, and to watch the kids play together.

Then after some extended family time and Miah’s birthday celebration,

It was off to the beach!

“No, Mom, it’s not cold!”

A little reading time in the camper before the day’s excursions.

We showed the girls our old stomping grounds,

Including the lighthouse and the octopus tree.

But their favorite stop was the Cheese Factory.

Mmm, mmm, good!!!

Stay tuned for more beach pictures…

Celebrating “Gotcha Ami”

July 25th, 2012

Just look at that smile!

Ami, you have grown and changed so much in the two years since we met you!

We’ll never forget that incredible day in Guangzhou when you became our long-awaited daughter and sister.

On that day, a special sisterly bond began,

And it just gets stronger as time passes.

Thank you for the blessings you bring to our family, sweet girl!

5 Year Anniversary!!!!!

May 7th, 2012

Five years ago we met and held this precious girl for the first time!

She is still “Sweet, Adorable, and Cute.”

She’s also Kind, Thoughtful, and Smart.

And she still has that infectious smile and laugh!

Miah, you have brightened our lives.

You are a wonderful big sister to your mei mei.

And you are a special blessing to your Mom and Dad!  Wo men ai ni, Miah!

A Big Milestone!

May 4th, 2012

This week we passed a huge milestone!

Ami has now been a part of our family longer than she was in her orphanage.  Xue’er had been there for 21 months when she finally met and was adopted into her forever family!

She has now been Ami Davis for 21 months.  A lot has happened in her life in those 21 months!  This little girl has come so far.

I think of her surgeries, recoveries, and many doctor appointments, and learning to speak and be understood.  She already knew independence, survival, and persistence.

She has learned Love, Family, and Stability.

We are the privileged ones to be her family.  I’m so glad we answered God’s call.
