Merry Christmas

December 24th, 2010

2010xmascard

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us.  The government will rest on his shoulders.  And he will be called:  Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.   ~ Isaiah 9:6

But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. ~ Gal 4:4,5

We wish you all a Blessed Christmas!

Santa’s Helper

December 23rd, 2010

2010.12.gifts

Guess who’s excited about Christmas?  Miah has really been enjoying helping Mommy wrap presents, then helping Daddy wrap presents.  It’s been so much fun that half the gifts under our tree, including those you see here, are gift bags she’s filled with favorite toys from around the house.  And the contents change daily.  Yesterday I asked her where a certain hairband was, and she replied, “It’s in my Christmas stocking.”

Of course all the festivities of the season help with the excitement.  Banquets, parties, concerts, J*urney to Bethlehem, and then tonight we went to the Living Nativity at one of the area churches.  The girls enjoyed seeing and petting the sheep.  Miah said her favorite part was seeing baby Jesus (he was awfully cute!)  But my favorite part was listening to my girls singing along with the carols.  There were even people in front of us turning to see who the sweet voice belonged to.  Then on the way home we detoured by some houses totally decked out in lights.  As we turned a corner, what should appear?  Three deer bounding through the snow.  We followed them for about a block, but never caught sight of Santa or the sleigh.

Choosing a Christmas Photo

December 21st, 2010

2010xmas1

Hopefully most of you have received our Christmas photo by now.  Of course there may be lurkers out there reading our blog who never write comments, so we don’t know you are interested!  We actually ended up with a handful of good photos this year (out of the 200 plus I took one day at the beginning of the month), so we made two different cards because I couldn’t decide which I liked best.  It was pretty random who got which card.  We’ll post the final choices on Christmas Eve.

So the photo shoot begins something like this . . .

2010xmas2

We have several along this line . . . one smiling, one looking, one blinking, etc.

2010xmas3

It’s generally the same child who’s always smiling . . .

Of course some of the best shots are a bit blurry . . .  But at least we ended on a happy note!

Christmas Cookies and Coyotes

December 18th, 2010

2010.12.cookies

Miah loves to help in the kitchen.  She remembered making gingerbread men last Christmas, and has been asking me for quite some time when we could do it again.  Here she’s making stripes on a candy cane.

One of her gingerbread men.

The snowmen were her favorite . . . both to decorate and to eat.

They’re fun to sit on, too!

Papa, we had to show you this picture after reading your comment last week.

And we mustn’t forget poor Ami.  She looks as swollen here as she was after surgery!

Oh, I guess it was just a cherry tomato.

She’s a little character.  This is what happens when she dresses herself.

And finally, here’s our view from the dining nook today.  Do you notice the coyote in the lower right corner?  Miah spotted him while we were eating lunch.  We watched him pounce at something a few times before digging into the bank, then laying down to rest for a while, then digging some more.  We figured he was after a mouse or rabbit or something.  It’s a wonder there are any rodents left with all the owls and hawks we have around here.  We frequently see/hear birds running into the slider window trying to escape quickly when the hawks fly over their feeders.  (We saw one get caught a couple years ago.  You can read about it here.)  The past couple weeks we’ve been awakened several nights by the great horned owl who likes to perch right above Miah’s bedroom.  Sometimes there are two on the roof serenading us.  One night we heard a trio – the third being in a neighbor’s tree.  (I also wrote about the owl here a couple years ago.)  Awesome birds, but please go elsewhere so Miah (and in turn, the rest of us) can sleep!
